This graceful athlete is descended from English Foxhounds.
Height: 23 to 26 inches at shoulder
Weight: in proportion to height
Coat: medium-length and tough
Life span: 10 to 12 years
Breed Group: Hounds
A descendent of the English Foxhound, this hunting dog is known for his speed, endurance, and loud voice in the field. The American English Coonhound will bark and bay at home, too, making him a poor choice if you've got nearby neighbors. He needs lots of exercise.
