Poncho is a special little boy!!! He is a full blooded Chihuahua, he is almost 1 1/2, he weighs around 8 pounds and he is perfect.
We got a call that a dog was going to be put to sleep because he got hit by a car and broke his hip. Unfortunately the owners couldn't afford surgery and opted to euthanize.
Of course we had to go get him!!! Poncho had
FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery, which involves removing the "ball" part of the hip joint to eliminate pain. The surgery creates a "false joint" supported by scar tissue and muscles. Physical therapy is extremely important with this type of surgery so Poncho is currently doing water treadmill and laser therapy as well as exercises at home with his foster parents.
Even though Poncho has been through a lot of Trauma in his first year of life he is super sweet and just loves everyone. He will continue his therapy until all of his sessions are complete and then the new owner will need to keep up with the at home exercises until he is fully healed.
If you would like Poncho to be a part of your family please fill out an application from our website.
