Bernard was rescued from the pound right before Christmas of 2009.  He would have been euthanized because he tested positive for heartworms.  He is about 2 1/2  years old and he weighs 120 pounds.  Our vet said that he is a purebred St. Bernard and a very handsome one at that!!!.  He is extremely sweet and loves to give kisses.  He has suffered from chronic ear infections in the past.  He must have been so miserable and shook his head constantly which caused his ear flaps to harden.  He loves having his ears cleaned now because he knows it will make him feel better and he will lay down on his back for you to do them. 

Bernard must have had a rough 2 years before we found him.  He is afraid of water and will cower with certain items.  We are doing our best to try and resolve these problems so that he can live a fearless life.  He does not do well with unneutered male dogs, we have a feeling that he was picked on a lot as a young pup.   He gets along great with smaller dogs, but enjoys chasing cats, so he needs a place that is kitty free.

The ideal home for Bernard would be a place where someone is home often, he loves people and wants to be around them.  He would need a high, solid fence for playtime and potty time, but he is a house dog.

Bernard loves to walk and does good on a leash.  He will never pass on a good belly rub or a tasty treat.  He is a special dog who was given a second chance at life and he wants to live it to the fullest!!
